Vit K
present in vegetables that are eaten, increases the coagulation of blood and
acts against the action of warfarin and acitrom. Patients taking Warfarin or Acitrom must keep
their intake of Vitamin K-rich vegetables consistent and take only small
amounts, from day to day, to avoid fluctuations in their INR levels.
High vit K foods, that should not be consumed in high amounts:
- Palak (Spinach)
- Methi (Fenugreek)
- Sarso ka Saag (Mustard greens)
- Dhania (Coriander)
- Pudina (Mint)
- Phul Gobi (Cauliflower)
- Broccoli (Broccoli)
- Soya Bean and Soya Bean oil
- Kiwi fruit
- Egg Yolk
- Canola Oil
These vegetables are low in Vitamin K and are safe to eat regularly:
- Root Vegetables: Carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, turnips.
- Vegetables grown on creepers (Bel wali sabziyan) : cucumbers (kheera), tinda, lauki, Torai, karela
- Others: Tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers (shimala mirch), cauliflower, artichoke, celery (Ajmoda), egg plant (Baigan)
